Janice Mason Steeves grew up in the Prairies and
attended the University of Manitoba, obtaining a Masters Degree in
Clinical Psychology. Her family life brought her eventually to Ontario,
where she began painting in the mid-1980’s after working in ceramics for
over 15 years. Mason Steeves completed her diploma in Drawing and
Painting at OCAD in 1997. She became a member of the Ontario Society of
Artists in 1993.
Mason Steeves is a painter who is interested in
image-based work and in creating textured surfaces using both oil and
encaustic on panel. She exhibits her work in galleries across Canada.
As president of the Ontario Society of Artists from
2000-2003, she conceived of the ideas for the Water Project, and then
mobilized the OSA to coordinate art exhibitions across the province on
the theme of ‘water’ during the month of July 2003.
